Workplace Accident Penalties Increase This Month

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s website, the penalties an employer could face in the wake of serious workplace violation have increased. Accounting for inflation, infractions that fall under the designation “Serious Other-Than-Serious Posting Requirements” will run up to (but no more than) $13,653 per violation, and failing to fix the problem could cost the company that same amount – $13,653 – per day beyond the date that it should have been fixed. A company could pay 10 times that amount, though; if an infraction is willful or repeated, it employers take the chance of being charged $136,532 per violation.
