The Window & Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) held its annual Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference recently, where it hosted key government officials and elected new leadership for its board of directors. The conference featured members of Congress and representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Migrant Policy Institute and the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB).

The event opened with a Legislative Action Fund luncheon that was headlined by Amy Walter, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Cook Political Report. Walter provided insider analysis of trends and events shaping the current political environment. WDMA officials then reported on the state of the association and key priorities for the coming year.

The annual meeting was followed by two policy sessions, in which the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Marc Freedman and the Migrant Policy Institute’s Julia Gelatt examined the outlook and intersection of labor, workforce and immigration policy in the 118th Congress. NAHB’s executive vice president and chief lobbyist, Jim Tobin, also examined the outlook for housing policy, while providing insider perspectives on key issues.

The second day of the conference began with keynote speeches from U.S. Representative Adrian Smith (R-NE) and U.S. Senator John Hoeven (R-ND). Congressman Smith and Senator Hoeven, members of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee, respectively, discussed key tax, trade and spending issues under consideration. The Washington Briefing Breakfast was followed with an in-person issue briefing by WDMA’s advocacy team, which touched on key policy issues impacting the window, door and skylight industry, including trade, infrastructure, tax, energy and ongoing regulatory issues. WDMA members then embarked on a full day of meetings with U.S. Representatives, U.S. Senators and senior congressional staff.

In a WDMA board of directors meeting, Emily Videtto, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Pella Corp., was appointed as the association’s 2023-25 chair, replacing outgoing chair Steve Tourek, of Marvin. Videtto has served as WDMA’s vice chair and treasurer for the past two years.

Other members of the 2023-24 WDMA executive committee include Jeff De Lonay of Kolbe Windows & Doors, as vice chair and treasurer; Fenton Challgren, of Therma-Tru Doors, as executive committee door representative; Andrea Nordaune, of Andersen Corp., as executive committee window representative; and Dave Pinder, of Cardinal Glass Industries, as executive committee supplier representative.

The conference concluded with a Congressional Reception on Capitol Hill.
