The Legends

I had the opportunity to attend Dave Yoho’s Legends of the Home Improvement ceremony this past month.  I have known Dave for almost 30 years and it is amazing to see how he has not lost any of his energy since I met him.  He still commands the room and his speaking ability is second to none.

It was terrific to be in the presence of so many successful home improvement leaders, owners and salespeople.  It’s interesting to see many of these “legends” also give back to their community with different types of programs.  It seems that when you experience success, you like to share in helping others become successful as well.

The room was full of many successful and experienced home improvement leaders, but also had many leaders that have realized many accomplishments early in their careers.  This bodes well for the home improvement industry as the “digital generation” is coming to fruition.

Being around these leaders also made me realize that the entrepreneurial spirit is still alive and well in our industry.  I seem to talk about this often with different folks.  As more private equity has come into the window industry, my opinion is companies often become averse to risk as a result.  But being around these leaders, being around Dave Yoho, Ron Sherman and so many others at this ceremony told me otherwise.

As we roll into Thanksgiving, we have a lot for which to be thankful.  Being in one of the most dynamic and entrepreneurial businesses is certainly one of them.

  1. Was, is and likely will continue to be one of if not the best entrepreneurial industry in the country. I’ve know Dave a few more years than you, and he continues to be a credit to our industry. Agree, much to be thankful for.
