Steves Brothers to be Honored as Ron Taylor Award Recipients

September 14th, 2023 by Drew Vass, Executive Editor

World Millwork Alliance’s (WMA) Ron Taylor Award (RTA) of Integrity and Commitment recognizes individuals who have achieved the highest standard of three key components: connection, commitment and contribution. This year, the organization has named brothers Edward Galt Steves and Sam Bell Steves II of Steves & Sons Inc. as the recipients.

Edward, the company’s CEO, and Sam, president, exemplify the Ron Taylor attitude, WMA officials say. In addition to the latest award, they have also been honored as Legacy Leaders by the San Antonio Business Journal for their leadership in steering Steves & Sons toward record growth. In 2021 they received the Pinnacle Award from the city of San Antonio for business sustainability.

“The 2023 Ron Taylor Award recipients reflect the best of our association and the millwork industry, recognized by former Ron Taylor Award recipients as outstanding individuals for their commitment and lifetime contributions,” said Rosalie Leone, WMA’s president and CEO.

Steves & Sons was founded in 1866 as a family-owned business, on the principles of conservative growth and environmental responsibility, WMA officials say. For over 157 years, the company has “provided high-quality interior and exterior doors, representing excellence, style and superior craftmanship nationwide,” they add. Today, the company’s team members include its fifth and sixth generation of management.

When asked about their company’s success, Edward and Sam say they learned about the industry and business from their father, Marshall T. Steves, and from their mother, Patsy Steves, who instilled a customer focus into Steves’ business practices.

In addition to their leadership, the Steves are also dedicated to various civic groups and organizations, donating their time and resources in support of programs throughout the San Antonio community. The company contributes to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, Homes for Veterans and Wounded Warriors, the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, and the United Way, as well as to cancer research and food banks. They have also held leadership roles on multiple civic boards, including the local Housing Authority, San Antonio Parks Foundation and World Affairs Council.

As a WMA member and supporter for 52 years, “Steves & Sons has been committed to the progress and prosperity of the association by serving in leadership and committee roles, being a WMA exhibitor for 49 years, and an event supporter who continues to remain an active member in the organization,” WMA officials write.

The two will be honored as the 2023 Ron Taylor Award recipients during WMA’s upcoming Millwork Convention & Tradeshow, held October 23, 2023, in Louisville, Ky.
