Raymond Gallagher of PPG Industries Dies at 79January 26th, 2018 by Editor
Raymond “Ray” Gallagher, a former employee of the PPG Glass Laboratory, died January 19, 2018 outside Pittsburgh after a brief illness. He was 79 years old.
Gallagher worked for PPG Industries Inc. for 45 years. According to his obituary, he was awarded several U.S. patents, and international patents in Germany, Italy, Sweden and India. Gallagher made contributions in heat transfer technology for windows and buildings. He managed the Commercial Glazing Group of engineers and scientists at the Glass Research Laboratory. He was awarded the “Presidents Award for Technical Excellence” for the development and commercialization of the PPG Intercept Spacer, a low-energy transfer product for windows.
Gallagher served on the board of directors for the National Fenestration Rating Council, the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Association of Canada and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance. After his retirement in 2004, he started his own company, Gallagher Technical Services LLC. He officially retired in 2014.
His funeral was held on Thursday in Plum, Pa.
