Prime Windows and Entry Doors Up 8 Percent

April 28th, 2022 by Editor

The demand for prime windows grew by 8.8% in 2021, while windows in new housing increased by 13% in 2021, according to the FGIA 2021/2022 Study of the U.S. Market for Windows, Doors and Skylights. In the 2021 residential market, new construction demand for entry doors grew by 8%. The report was released this week by The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA), and the bi-annual report provides information on residential and non-residential market trends and product relationships for both residential and non-residential fenestration products.

According to the report, total housing starts grew significantly in 2021, with the highest growth in multi-family at 22%, following the 2020 slowdown. Going forward, the overall new housing market is expected to continue to grow in 2022 before declining slightly in 2023 and 2024. A decline of 5% is currently forecasted for 2024.

Remodeling and replacement window demand grew 5% in 2021 and is forecast to grow by another 5% in 2022, with growth of 3-and 2% in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

While new construction demand for entry doors grew by 8%, entry door remodeling and replacement interest declined at 2%. The total market grew by 2% over 2020 and is expected to have continued growth through 2024.

The market for residential-type skylights grew in 2021, representing a 6% increase in overall unit shipments compared to 2020 and a 10% increase compared to 2019. The increase in 2021 was driven primarily by double-digit growth seen in new construction activity, the organization reports, with remodel and replacement growing in the single digits.

The various Market Study reports are all available for purchase from the FGIA Online Store.

  1. I assume these are Unit growth estimates for windows and doors. Do they also report on 2021 Price growth?
