PPG Sticks with Green Hue for 2023 Color of the Year

September 8th, 2022 by Editor

PPG, a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products and specialty materials, announced its 2023 Color of the Year, Vining Ivy. The company annually selects a color of the year to highlight how the chosen hue will influence trends within the home, lifestyle, infrastructure and industry.

According to PPG, Vining Ivy is a deeply saturated, jewel-toned green with cool turquoise undertones. The hue lands between woodsy forest green and blue-green teal. Vining Ivy was selected because PPG color stylists believe the hue is reflective of the continued interest in biophilic design, which incorporates nature into everyday lives and spaces.

“We are seeing green on a broader range of product applications than ever before,” says Vanessa Peterson, PPG global color styling leader, Industrial Coatings. “We felt compelled to recognize its ongoing influence with the 2023 selection because it has infiltrated the market in such a strong and powerful way.”

Vining Ivy reflects the continued global dominance of green around the world, says PPG. It is the second consecutive year that PPG selected a shade of green and the third in the past five years. PPG’s 2022 Color of the Year was Olive Sprig, which is a desaturated soft green.

“Green has a calming yet modern aesthetic and symbolizes prosperity, freshness and progress,” says Peterson. “It perfectly reflects our current climate.”
