National Vinyl Donates Windows to Extreme Makeover Home EditionNovember 29th, 2011 by Editor
A Massachusetts family was selected for the December 2 episode of ABC’s reality TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and their new home will feature windows from National Vinyl LLC of Chicopee, Mass. The home is located on Northampton Street in Springfield, Mass. Ty Pennington and his team of designers surprised Sirdeaner Walker and her family on Sunday morning September 11 to announce that they had been chosen as the recipient of a new home.
Walker’s son Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover took his own life on April 6, 2009 in their home after alleged relentless bullying by classmates. Ms. Walker and her family have been unable to go to the third floor of their home since that date.
“We are extremely proud to be involved in this project,” said Scott Channell National Vinyl LLC general manager. “As a family run business based in Western Massachusetts we pride ourselves on our commitment to our family, employees and community. As a parent my heart goes out to Ms. Walker. Since her son’s death she has worked tirelessly to bring attention to the issue of bullying and her voice was instrumental is securing the passage of anti-bully legislation in Massachusetts. The ability to assist a deserving member of our community is an honor and our employees as well as our vendors are excited to be contributing to this great cause.”
The Home Builders Association of Western Massachusetts sent out requests for participation to all its members in early August. “Upon receiving the request, we immediately knew this was something we wanted to be involved in as it supports our company’s philosophy that we all can make a difference,” said Channell. “All members of our National family have offered their assistance. Our vendors, Chelsea Building Products, Edgetech, AGC Glass, Guardian, Timber Trading and OSI Sealants, all have donated material. Our employees have committed to working on a very tight schedule to produce the windows on time and one of our customers, Randy Roberts [of] Window Works, has offered his time and experience to install the windows.”
Channell adds, “We will be providing over 30 Energy Star® rated windows constructed with some of the best energy-efficient technologies available today. Not only will these windows be beautiful they will save the Walker family money in home energy costs for years to come.”
