In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Milgard Windows and Doors donated $5,000 to the Susan G. Komen Inland Empire “More than Pink” Walk that took place in Murrieta, Calif., on October 9. The donation was made through the MITER Foundation^TM, the charitable arm of Milgard parent brand MITER Brands^TM.

The MITER Foundation was a Silver Sponsor of the event where nine team members from the Milgard Windows and Doors Temecula facility participated in the walk. The fight against cancer is one of the pillars of the MITER Foundation, which annually donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations that provide cancer research and support.

“The deductibles and out-of-pocket cost for cancer treatment is high,” said Tammy Bartlett, a Milgard team member who also serves on the MITER Foundation charitable outreach committee in Temecula. “Things like wigs, transportation, and advanced medicine are not normally covered by insurance. Even delivered meals at no cost make a big difference in this situation. That’s why I will continue to walk for the cause.”

Founded in 1982, Susan G. Komen is a nonprofit devoted to eradicating breast cancer. Over the past 40 years, Susan G. Komen has invested more than $2 billion in patient-support services and more than $1 billion in breast-cancer research.

As part of its mission, Susan G. Komen holds walks around the country to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The Inland Empire walk attracted hundreds of participants and has raised more than $150,000 thus far; fundraising will continue through Nov. 7.
