    Thank you for your efforts to continue an industry dialog about Energy Star and the budget changes that could make the program nothing more than a footnote in our energy history.

    As your survey indicates, there are differences within the fenestration industry, especially the private vs public approach. Should budget trimming close Energy Star, I sincerely hope that a private, industry-affiliated organization can step in to fill the gap. A private option will take time and lack the consumer-recognition that has given Energy Star credibility at the end-user level. Energy Star has developed as a brand…it means something positive to citizens.

    Without Energy Star…or a recognizable private-sector equivalent, we will lose focus on improving performance of building components like fenestration. Respecting those who cry for less regulations, energy efficiency is a goal that improves the quality of life for all. We need such beacons….they help shine through the clutter of everyday life.

    Just my well-wrinkled thoughts…
