FenestrationAssociate: I Passed!

If you follow DWM on social media (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram), you probably noticed that I was celebrating a little bit last week. And with good reason. You see, I passed my FenestrationAssociate examination at the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) National Conference in Huntington Beach, Calif. The 100-question test was challenging, but I was still able to get through it successfully. Now, I’m proudly displaying a professional certification on the wall in my office — and you could, too.

Here’s the thing — if I can pass it with a little more than a year of experience writing about the industry, then anyone who does hands-on work with doors and windows every day certainly can.

All you have to do is sign up for the program. Then, you go through five rounds of study to prepare for the final exam. If you score 65 or better on the test, you’ve earned the FenestrationAssociate Professional Certification (FAPC), a designation that you can add to your name (“John Smith, FAPC”) on professional documents, e-mail tag lines, social media sites and more.

Beyond that, passing the FenestrationAssociate coursework is deeply rewarding in and of itself. It feels great to achieve a goal — especially one that will help your career and your company. Also, the knowledge I’ve gained during my studies will help me as I write about issues facing the door and window industry. I want to do the best job possible; the FenestrationAssociate program will help me achieve that.

So what are you waiting for? Get started on improving yourself right now.
