Online Training OK’d to Meet Lead Paint Rule Requirements

February 2nd, 2016 by Editor

The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) recently cleared the way to allow remodelers to take refresher training online to meet the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting (LRRP) rule.

According to a blog post at NAHB Now, the official news blog of the National Association of Home Builders, OMB made the decision after 2015 NAHB Remodelers Chair Robert Criner met with White House officials to push for easier recertification for those who work in homes that might contain lead paint.

According to NAHB, the rule will apply in all states where EPA administers the LRRP rule, but not in the 14 states that administer their own programs.

Additionally, the final rule no longer requires firms, training providers and contractors to be certified or accredited in each jurisdiction where they work.
