February 4th, 2014 by Editor

The International Builders’ Show opened this morning in Las Vegas, and if the signs in rising housing starts and rising attitudes, are any indication, the event should be one filled with good news and innovative products.

Many members of the door and window industry are in attendance and industry suppliers have a wide variety of products on display. Following are a few glimpses of new introductions. Stay tuned to dwmmag.com all week for our in-depth video coverage from the show floor.

Doors

Pulse modern-style fiberglass and steel entry doors by Therma-Tru will be on display. These doors are available in oak-grained fiberglass, smooth (paintable) fiberglass and steel and come in heights of both 6 feet 8 inches and 8 feet. Therma-Tru offers the Pulse door line in four different styles—Ari, Solei, Echo and Linea. The doors all have four privacy glass options (chord, chinchilla, rainglass and granite) along with clear low-E and internal blinds. The Linea style is available with these same glass insert options plus decorative glass options of Blackstone®, Crystalline, Sedona, Salinas®, Element, Maple Park®, Avonlea®, Saratoga, Texas Star, Arden® and Crystal Diamonds.

PGT Industries, supplier of residential impact-resistant doors and windows, will launch a new vinyl French door at the event. The door is designed to achieve the look of a traditional wood door, while also being energy efficient and able to withstand pressures of up to +/- 70 psf, according to the company.

The new vinyl door can be configured as a single or double door, and offers options of impact- or non-impact-resistant glass, sidelites and transoms. For added strength and security, the design also features a standard multi-point lock with an anti-lift feature that secures the doors to the frame or adjoining door in multiple places. It meets Miami-Dade certifications and its cellular vinyl frame and panels contribute to its Energy Star® performance, the company says.

The door is an addition to the vinyl WinGuard and PGT vinyl product lines.

FrontLine Building Products Inc. is introducing a new commercial outswing door. The 1¾-inch thick door has top and bottom rails fastened to LVL stiles on both the lock and hinge sides. The stiles and rails are joined using 5/8-inch diameter dowel construction to insure strength and durability.

The veneered interior is applied using a polyresin backer sheet. VG Douglas Fir is standard with other species available. All wood components are kiln dried, insect-repellent and water-preservative treated.

The door exterior is clad with heavy gauge extruded aluminum, overlapped at the seams for a weather-tight seal. This feature is incorporated in the clad mid-stile and mid-rail options. A variety of decorative flat- and raised-panel insert options are also available.

Kolbe introduces the VistaLuxe Collection, developed with architects specifically for contemporary designs that utilize multiple units to create large expanses of glass.

Casements, awnings, direct-set windows, inswing and outswing doors and matching transoms are featured in the company’s VistaLuxe Collection. A choice of two profiles is offered: the smoothly aligned Flush style or the setback Accent style. Minimal, narrow frames optimize daylight openings and maximize viewing areas, while maintaining energy efficiency. The glass remains on the same plane for a consistent appearance across the different products in the VistaLuxe Collection.

The series features classic frame design, a selection of styles and energy efficiency, according to the company. The windows come standard with ProSolar® low-E glass with argon gas.
