The International Builders’ Show opened this morning in Las Vegas, and if the signs in rising housing starts and rising attitudes, are any indication, the event should be one filled with good news and innovative products.
Many members of the door and window industry are in attendance and industry suppliers have a wide variety of products on display. Following are a few glimpses of new introductions. Stay tuned to dwmmag.com all week for our in-depth video coverage from the show floor.
Pulse modern-style fiberglass and steel entry doors by Therma-Tru will be on display. These doors are available in oak-grained fiberglass, smooth (paintable) fiberglass and steel and come in heights of both 6 feet 8 inches and 8 feet. Therma-Tru offers the Pulse door line in four different styles—Ari, Solei, Echo and Linea. The doors all have four privacy glass options (chord, chinchilla, rainglass and granite) along with clear low-E and internal blinds. The Linea style is available with these same glass insert options plus decorative glass options of Blackstone®, Crystalline, Sedona, Salinas®, Element, Maple Park®, Avonlea®, Saratoga, Texas Star, Arden® and Crystal Diamonds.
PGT Industries, supplier of residential impact-resistant doors and windows, will launch a new vinyl French door at the event. The door is designed to achieve the look of a traditional wood door, while also being energy efficient and able to withstand pressures of up to +/- 70 psf, according to the company.
The new vinyl door can be configured as a single or double door, and offers options of impact- or non-impact-resistant glass, sidelites and transoms. For added strength and security, the design also features a standard multi-point lock with an anti-lift feature that secures the doors to the frame or adjoining door in multiple places. It meets Miami-Dade certifications and its cellular vinyl frame and panels contribute to its Energy Star® performance, the company says.
The door is an addition to the vinyl WinGuard and PGT vinyl product lines.
FrontLine Building Products Inc. is introducing a new commercial outswing door. The 1¾-inch thick door has top and bottom rails fastened to LVL stiles on both the lock and hinge sides. The stiles and rails are joined using 5/8-inch diameter dowel construction to insure strength and durability.
The veneered interior is applied using a polyresin backer sheet. VG Douglas Fir is standard with other species available. All wood components are kiln dried, insect-repellent and water-preservative treated.
The door exterior is clad with heavy gauge extruded aluminum, overlapped at the seams for a weather-tight seal. This feature is incorporated in the clad mid-stile and mid-rail options. A variety of decorative flat- and raised-panel insert options are also available.
Kolbe introduces the VistaLuxe Collection, developed with architects specifically for contemporary designs that utilize multiple units to create large expanses of glass.
Casements, awnings, direct-set windows, inswing and outswing doors and matching transoms are featured in the company’s VistaLuxe Collection. A choice of two profiles is offered: the smoothly aligned Flush style or the setback Accent style. Minimal, narrow frames optimize daylight openings and maximize viewing areas, while maintaining energy efficiency. The glass remains on the same plane for a consistent appearance across the different products in the VistaLuxe Collection.
Simonton Windows will bring its Reflections® 5500 vinyl windows with Decorum features to the International Builders Show. The series features classic frame design, a selection of styles and energy efficiency, according to the company. The windows come standard with ProSolar® low-E glass with argon gas. High-performance glass options including a triple-pane insulating glass unit and ProSolar® Shade low-E glass.
The windows can be customized with Decorum by Simonton features. These include exterior colors of brick, bronze, chocolate, cream, driftwood, pine and tan, along with interior wood grain options of antique cherry, contemporary oak and maple. Premium hardware finish options include brushed nickel, oil-rubbed bronze, dark bronze and polished brass.
Ply Gem Windows is expanding design capabilities and features within its vinyl replacement and remodel product lines—Premium and Pro Replacement Series—with the introduction of new exterior color options and a new rigid welded nail fin.
Four new exterior painted color options will be added to select Ply Gem Windows Premium and Pro Replacement Series Windows, as well as the Great Lakes Window product lines, including ecoSmart, UniFrame, Lifestyles and Seabrooke.
The new Signature Colors are black, sharkskin, evergreen and royal brown, available in Matte or Euro finish type. Grilles between the glass will be available in two-tone colors to match the painted exterior and color interior (wood grain or solid color). These options are designed to complement the Designed Exterior by Ply Gem, which combines colors and textures of windows, siding, stone veneer, trim, fence, rail and more. The Signature palette also includes vinyl colors available in white, beige, sandstone, earth tone and bronze.
Ply Gem Windows Premium and Pro Replacement Series window products will now also feature a rigid welded nail fin option on double hung, slider, casement, awning, fixed shapes, and bay and bow operating styles. When properly installed, the new rigid welded nail fin helps to eliminate the risk of air and water infiltration, according to the company. The feature is backed by Ply Gem’s Limited Lifetime warranty.
Folding Door Systems
Kömmerling, based in Germany, will introduce the PremiDoor lift/slide doors to the U.S. market at IBS.
The Premidoor spans a 19-foot opening with two 8-foot sashes, allowing for more glass and less vinyl, so occupants have a greater view of the outside. It also features outstanding thermal performance, a German hardware system that enables sashes to glide effortlessly, and comes in many colors and finishes, according to the company.
LaCantina introduces a new class of multi sliding door system and swing doors at this year’s IBS show.
The new multi sliding door system and swing doors feature LaCantina’s narrow stile and rail profile and are available in a range of material options. LaCantina offers the same aesthetic across its entire product line, providing a complete matching door package of folding, sliding and swing doors.
LaCantina Doors has created this new line of sliding door by combining the preferred features of multi slides and the lift and slide products
