Door and Window Companies Make the Fortune 500
June 1st, 2012 by EditorEarlier this month, Fortune magazine released its annual list of the top 500 U.S. companies โ among the top rankings for 2011 are companies representing all facets of the door and window industry including several suppliers, many of whom are in the chemical sector, as well as companies including Home Depot and Masco, parent company of Milgard Windows and Doors.
Home Depot, based in Atlanta, ranked 35 (compared to a 2010 rank of 30) with its 2011 revenue of $70,395 million and a 3.5 percent decrease from its 2010 revenue, which was 67,997 million. Its 2011 profits was listed as $3,883 million.
Masco, a Taylor, Mich.-based company, ranked 338 in 2011 (314 in 2010). Its total revenue last year was $7,560 million, with a 0.4 percent decrease from its 2010 revenue, which was $ 7,592 million. Its 2011 profit was $575 million.
3M, a St. Paul, Minn.-based company, ranked 102 for 2011 (97 in 2010). The company’s annual revenue was $29,611 million, which is an 11.1 percent increase from last year’s $26,662 million. The company achieved a profit of $4,283 million for the year.
One Deerfield, Ill.-based company, Fortune Brands, was displaced from the list of the top 500. It ranked 352 in 2010 (with total revenue of $6, 570 million) and now ranks 837.
Of those chemical companies, Dow Chemical, based in Midland, Mich., ranked 47 overall (45 in 2010) but also first within the chemicals sector. The company’s total revenue was $59,985 million compared to $53,674 million last year, an 11.8 percent increase. The company achieved a profit of $2,742 million for the year.
Danbury, Conn.-based Praxair, which teamed with Integrated Automation Systems recently to develop the OptiGas gas-filling machine, ranked 238 overall (241 in 2010) but also sixth within the chemical sector. The companyโs total revenue was $11, 252 million compared to $10,116 million last year, an 11.2 percent increase. Its 2011 profit was $1,672 million.
Dupont, based in Wilmington, Del., ranked 72 overall (84 in 2010), and second within the chemical sector. The company’s total revenue was $38,719 million, compared to $32,733 million last year, an 18.3 percent increase. The company’s profits are listed at $3,474 million.
Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries ranked 180 overall and third within the chemical sector (up from 181 last year). Its total revenue for 2011 was $14,885 million compared to $13,423 million in 2010, which is a 10.9 percent increase. The company achieved a profit of $1,095 million for the year, according to the report.
Eastman Chemical, based in Kingsport, Tenn., ranked 346 overall (348 in 2010) and ranked 11 within the chemical sector. The company’s total revenue was $7,283 million compared to $6,691 million last year, an 8.8 percent increase. Eastman, which recently acquired St. Louis-based Solutia Inc., achieved profits of $696 million for the year.
Momentive Specialty Chemicals, based in Columbus, Ohio, ranked 452 (433 in 2010) with a total revenue of $5,352 million–a 3.4 percent increase since 2010, when the company achieved a revenue of $5,174 million. The company achieved profits of $118 million for the year.
