CPSC Issues Recall on MI 1620 Impact Windows

January 13th, 2023 by Drew Vass, Executive Editor

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall alert Thursday for products produced by MI Windows and Doors, warning that some of the company’s 1620 vinyl single-hung impact windows with window opening control devices (WOCDs) present fall and serious injury hazards. According to CPSC officials, the product’s tilt latches can cause its WOCD hardware to malfunction. CPSC’s notice says recalled products have two surface-mounted tilt latches and two WOCDs. The remedy includes replacing WOCDs.

The recall includes only 1620 impact windows manufactured prior to November 2022. According to CPSC officials, an estimated 25,000 window units were provided through independent distributors, including C and C Window & Door and Southeastern Sash, throughout the U.S. Southern Coastal region. Products were sold and distributed across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, from September 2017 through November 2022.

Customers with recalled products in their homes are advised to immediately close and lock windows, then contact the manufacturer to arrange for free, in-home repairs.

MI Windows and Doors can be reached by phone at 800-276-0408, or by email at Recall2022@miwd.com. Consumers can also access help online, at www.miwindows.com/1620impactWOCDRecall or can visit https://miwindows.com/ and click on “Voluntary Safety Recall” for more information.

According to CPSC’s notice, MI Windows and Doors is contacting all known purchasers.
