“Consumers Digest” Names Best Buys in Replacement Windows

September 12th, 2016 by Editor

Andersen, Pella, Ply Gem, ProVia, Quaker and Semco are the brands ranked as the best buys in replacement windows by Consumers Digest in its October issue.

According to Consumers Digest, windows were selected based on performance ratings, quality of construction and materials, ease of operation and warranty. The magazine limited its picks to vinyl and aluminum-clad wood units, which account for about 80 percent of the U.S. market for replacement windows. Additionally, Consumers Digest only considered manufacturers who distribute their products nationally.

In vinyl windows, ProVia’s Endure was the top-ranked window in the premium price range. Ply Gem’s Premium Series was tops in the midrange category, and Quaker’s AdvantEdge E4 was best in the economy category.

Among vinyl-clad wood windows, Andersen’s 400 Series was the top midrange pick

Pella placed two products among the best aluminum-clad wood windows — Designer Series Precision Fit (premium) and the ProLine 450 Series (economy). The Semco Tilt Double Hung was No. 1 in the midrange category.
