BLS Reports Glass Import, Export Prices up for Latest Four-, 12-month Periods
March 17th, 2014 by EditorImport prices for glass and glassware rose 1.4 percent between February 2013 and February 2014, while export prices increased 0.6 percent during that time period, according to the latest release of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Import and Export Price Indexes.
More recently, import prices are up 0.4 percent between October 2013 and February 2014, with no change in the most recent time window, from January to February. Prices rose 0.3 percent in the December-to-January timeframe, after falling 0.1 percent from November to December and climbing 0.2 percent from October to November.
On the export side, prices for glass and glassware are up 0.4 percent for the period between October 2013 and February 2014: 0.1 percent for October to November, no change for November to December, 0.2 percent for December to January, and 0.1 percent for January to February.
The glass and glassware category includes float glass, safety glass, lab glass and a range of other glass products, according to information from the International Price Program office in Washington, D.C.
Overall across all sectors, the BLS reported that U.S. import prices rose 0.9 percent in February, following a 0.4 percent advance the previous month. Higher fuel prices, which more than offset declining nonfuel prices, were behind the overall rise, according to the BLS. Import prices rose for the third consecutive month.
Exports for all sectors, which have not experienced a monthly decline since a 0.6 percent drop in October, rose 0.6 percent in February, BLS reported.
