Marvin Windows and Doors Donate More than $115,000 to Hurricane Recovery

Marvin Windows and Doors of Warroad, Minn., has donated more than $115,000 toward hurricane recovery. Honorary chairperson William S. "Bill" Marvin presented The Salvation Army, American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity with checks to aid in hurricane disaster relief and rebuilding programs.

Following hurricanes Katrina and Rita in September, employees set a goal to raise $40,000 with an unlimited match by the company. Through creative fund-raising efforts large and small, Marvin Windows and Doors employees in Warroad, Minn.; Eagan, Minn.; and Grafton, N.D., exceeded their goal by $18,000 to reach nearly $58,000--totaling $115,000 when combined with a match from the company.

"The generosity and ingenuity of the employees of Marvin Windows and Doors never ceases to amaze me," said Susan Marvin, president of Marvin. "The success of our massive fund-raising effort demonstrates that even small activities, such as bake sales and change jars, can make a big difference with team work and dedication."

Organized under a committee named "Operation Marvin Cares: Karing After Katrina," employees participated in a variety of activities to reach their goal including more than 20 company-wide raffles, 15 bake sales, and selling 284 T-shirts, 86 sweatshirts and more than 1,300 cookbooks. Incentives to raise money came in more creative forms as well, such as agreements by members of management to shave their heads or dress up as superheroes for a certain amount of money donated to the general fund.

"The raffles were a crucial part of our efforts, with more than $19,000 coming from raffles for prizes such as a Polaris ATV, an iPod Shuffle, a granite countertop, guns, fishing equipment and jewelry," said Jenny Slukynsky, co-chair of the Operation Marvin Cares committee. "We never would have reached our goal without the support of local businesses and community members who generously donated items to help the cause."
