Lighter, More Advanced Glass

MITER Brands has introduced Triton Advanced Glass Systems, a new product line that utilizes technologies from Corning and H.B. Fuller.

The lineup includes Triton Advanced Impact and Triton Advanced Triple Pane—both incorporating Corning’s Enlighten thin glass and H.B. Fuller’s 4SG Fusion Bonded Spacer. Triton Advanced Impact is designed for Florida and other coastal regions, providing storm protection and sound reduction in a lightweight unit. The product replaces MITER Brands’ existing Diamond Glass line of insulating glass units (IGUs) with thin-glass technology.

Triton Advanced Triple Pane uses the same glass and spacer technologies in a lightweight triple-pane configuration designed to reduce drafts and outside noise while improving year-round comfort. Depending on the glass package, Triton systems can reduce weight by up to 40% while offering increased strength, clarity, scratch resistance and energy efficiency, according to company information.

The company’s Sunrise Collection will be among the first products to offer the triple-pane option.

Moisture Testing Made Easier

Kett US offers two moisture meters designed to help door and window manufacturers verify moisture levels in wood components before machining, assembly, finishing or installation.

The HB-300 Universal Moisture Meter is a pin-style instrument designed for wood, drywall, concrete and other materials. When equipped with an optional four-pin probe, the meter measures moisture in wood and can be calibrated on site using customer reference standards.

For wood-specific applications, Kett’s HM-540 Wood Moisture Tester comes factory calibrated and requires no user calibration. Built-in specific gravity correction helps account for differences among wood species, while automatic temperature compensation eliminates the need for manual adjustments as temperatures change.

Together, the meters provide manufacturers with options for checking moisture content at various stages of production and installation.

Coordinated Security

Kwikset has introduced a new collection of entry sets designed to provide coordinated styling and security across exterior doors. Designed for front, back, garage entry and side doors, the sets pair a deadbolt with a handle or knob mounted on interior and exterior low-profile backplates. The design creates a more cohesive appearance than separate lock and handle components while providing the security of a standard Kwikset deadbolt, according to company information.

The entry sets are available across the company’s Halifax, Sedona, Sora and Pismo collections. Halifax features straight, contemporary lines, while Sedona uses an updated wave-shaped lever with a slim profile. Sora offers a traditional knob with detailing around its edges, and Pismo features clean lines and smooth surfaces for a minimalist look.

Each entry set incorporates Kwikset’s SmartKey Security technology, which is designed to protect against advanced break-in techniques and allows homeowners to re-key locks themselves in seconds. The technology also allows multiple exterior doors to be configured for operation with a single key.

Designed for remodels, upgrades, new construction and rental properties, the sets install with a screwdriver and fit standard-size doors from 1 3/8 to 1 3/4 inches thick. They accommodate 2-3/8- or 2-3/4-inch backsets and door bore holes spaced 5 1/2 inches apart, center to center.

Available in Satin Nickel, Matte Black and Satin Brass finishes, the entry sets include coordinating hardware and are backed by a lifetime mechanical and finish warranty.

More Function in Less Space

Falkenstein North America has introduced Push-Two-Soft, a pocket door damping system designed to provide soft-close and soft-open performance for doors as narrow as 24 inches.

The system addresses a limitation associated with conventional dual-sided dampers, which typically require wider door panels. By accommodating narrower doors, Push-Two-Soft expands the use of dual damping to applications such as powder rooms, closets and laundry rooms, where space constraints can require smaller door widths.

The system also integrates push-to-open functionality into the same mechanism. When a pocket door is fully recessed and flush inside the wall, users can push against the door to release it from the pocket. This eliminates the need for finger pulls, edge pulls or additional flush-mounted hardware to retrieve the door.

Combining soft-close, soft-open and push-to-open functions into one mechanism also reduces the number of components installers need to stock and install, company officials point out.

The new system is compatible with Falkenstein’s VARIOpocket and SMARTtrack in-wall pocket door systems and can accommodate wood and glass door panels on the same track system.

The product will be available through Falkenstein’s U.S. authorized dealer network beginning in early September.

Trim That Holds Its Shape

Edge, part of UFP Industries, has introduced Arris, a mineral-based composite exterior trim product designed to provide dimensional stability while reducing movement at joints and mitered corners.

Arris is manufactured using proprietary Surestone technology, a mineral-based composite technology also used in Deckorators decking. According to the company, the material experiences minimal thermal movement compared with traditional trim products, helping mitered corners and other joints remain tight through seasonal temperature changes. This is designed to address a common challenge with exterior trim, where expansion and contraction can cause joints to separate and create visible gaps.

The trim features a white capstock designed to resist scratches, scuffs and weather exposure. Officials say the material is also lightweight and arrives ready to install, helping simplify handling and reduce installation time.

Arris is initially available in an S1S2E profile, with one textured side and three smooth sides. An S4S version, featuring four smooth sides, is planned. Widths range from 4 to 12 inches, with nominal 1x and 5/4x thicknesses. The product is launching in 20-foot lengths, with additional lengths planned, according to company information.
