The latest Producer Price Index (PPI) from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has dropped, showing prices for materials used in door and window manufacturing mostly increased—not only from January to February 2025, but on a year-over-year basis.

In February, the monthly PPI for flat glass in the commodity category climbed, rising by 0.4% from the previous month and up 1.7% compared to the previous year. According to BLS, the commodity classification “organizes products and services by similarity or material composition, regardless of the industry classification of the producing establishment.”

The index for flat glass manufacturing in the industry classification continued the positive trend with a 1.5% jump from January 2025, and a 4% increase on a year-over-year basis. The industry classification measures “changes in prices received for the industry’s output sold outside the industry (that is, its net output).”

The PPI for metal windows stagnated from January and clocked in at 0.6% down from the February 2024 report, while prices for metal doors and frames increased from January to February, by 0.1%, with a 2.7% increase since last year. Prices for wood window units rose 1.8% from the previous month and was up 3% on a year-over-year basis. Meanwhile, prices for wood doors for interior and exterior applications dropped across the board in February 2025, down 1.5% from January, which carried over to a decrease of 3.1% over February 2024 pricing.

The price for thermoplastic resins and plastic materials went up 3.3% over January 2025, and saw a jump of 0.4% from February of last year. Prices for fiberglass plastic products flatlined from the previous month but had an increase of 6.7% over the previous February.

The cost of builders’ hardware, which includes hardware used in doors and windows, notched a slight increase as well, up 0.7% from January to February, and 1% from February 2024.
