The downturn in housing construction and increasing number of news reports predicting a forthcoming recession have not put as much of a damper on the residential door and window industry. Just as Manufacturing Week takes place this week, two manufacturers announced expansions and one broke ground on a new facility.

Elevate Windows & Doors says the company is expanding and fine-tuning the business in the fourth quarter of 2022 and into 2023.

“These past few years have been years of change and growth for Elevate,” says co-owner James Gresham. “After successfully negotiating COVID-19, 2021-22 was a time of process improvement and growth that allowed us to meet some critical milestones.”

Elevate Windows & Doors LLC is headquartered in Grand Prairie, Texas, and the company says it manufactures its windows to “exacting specifications,” so that the products meet or exceed those of EnergyStar requirements. Elevate recently expanded its Texas operations by adding 40,000 square feet of space to its existing 135,000-square-foot facility, and adding 75 to 100 additional jobs. This, the company says, will increase the capacity of the Texas facility by 1,000 units per day.

“We are committed to our customers and the new housing markets we compete in,” Gresham continues. “Our objective is to be the premier door and window manufacturer in the markets we serve. We feel these capital expenditures and process improvements emphasize that commitment.”

The company also recently announced expansion into the Kentucky and Tennessee markets. Elevate’s Hopkinsville, Ky., manufacturing facility will be comprised of 100,000 square feet and is targeting an initial production rate of 2,000 units per day. The facility will eventually employ more than 200 people.

“Our expansion is one way for us to reemphasize our commitment to our excellent distribution partners,” says Jim Robinson, co-owner. “We see the Kentucky-Tennessee corridor as having a similar growth trajectory as our Texas operations. These new plants are our first steps into geographic expansion and where we expect our company to grow.”

With the purchase of the Kentucky facilities complete by the end of first quarter 2023, the first units should roll off that assembly line by mid second quarter 2023.

Meanwhile, St. Cloud Window Inc., a woman-owned manufacturer of high-performance commercial aluminum fenestration products headquartered in Sauk Rapids, Minn., has announced Window Reps of Raleigh, N.C., has joined the company’s sales team as independent sales representatives. Window Reps will be courting architectural and building design professionals, construction developers and general contractors, along with glass and glazing contractors. The effort will serve to expand St. Cloud Window’s reach in the southeast.

Cory Gensler leads a team of industry professionals with 50-plus years of experience in the building industry. The team provides “extensive” technical and customer support on projects for new construction, retrofit, historic renovations and custom applications.

And last week, YKK AP America officially broke ground on a new residential door and window manufacturing facility in Macon-Bibb County, Ga.

YKK AP announced in August its plans to invest $125 million into the middle-Georgia region with a new residential manufacturing facility, plus additional machinery and equipment. The new facility will create 100 new jobs in addition to the 250 jobs YKK AP currently supports in Macon, Ga.

“Today’s groundbreaking is more than a celebration of our first greenfield manufacturing facility for the YKK AP residential business. It is a representation of YKK AP America’s ‘Cycle of Goodness’ philosophy that ‘No one prospers without rendering benefit to others,’ says YKK AP America president Oliver Stepe. “Not only is this new facility about contributing to the Macon community and to society, it is also about our employees. The fact that we already have a large workforce here was one of the critical imperatives on why we chose Macon.”

YKK AP will begin construction immediately with plans to open in January 2024.
