Pella Corporation topped the list of Iowa companies on Forbes’ America’s Best-in-State Employers list for 2022, joining several other big door and window industry names, including PGT Innovations.

Forbes indicates that it partnered with market research company Statista to compile the fourth annual list, which is divided into 51 rankings—one for each of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia—and was compiled by surveying 70,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees.

Andersen Corporation, led by Jay Lund, joined 34 other Minnesota-based companies as employment leaders in the state. The door and window manufacturer employs 12,000 in total and Pittsburgh’s Alcoa also landed on the list, in the Engineering and Manufacturing categories for its production of bauxite, alumina, and aluminum products. The company was one of 36 Pennsylvania-based companies to be so honored.

Eastman Chemical Company, which – among other things – manufactures plastic interlayers used for laminating glass, joins the list of door and window manufacturing and adjacent companies to make it. Eastman, headquartered in Kingsport, Tenn., is one of 38 companies with headquarters in the state to make the list.

Other names on the list that the door and window industry would recognize include Ace Hardware, Lowe’s and The Home Depot.

Forbes says the surveys were conducted anonymously, allowing participants to freely share their opinions. The final list ranks the 1,382 employers that received the most recommendations and were compiled to rank up to 101 employers in each state, depending on the size of its workforce.
