The Shows Will Go On: Glass Expo VE, September 9-10

Our September issue looks a little different than in past years when there were pages and pages of new products to be featured at all of the fall trade shows. As with everything else related to COVID-19, pivots were necessary, and the industry regrouped to create virtual events where people could still gather, be educated, and learn what new products are available. Does it come close to in-person interaction? No, but it’s the next best thing. And like it or not, virtual events will be more prevalent—and relevant—even when in-person ones return, and after the COVID-19 numbers fade. It’s part of our new trade show landscape.

To that end, there are two major events happening in September, and I sincerely hope you will take advantage of these, as it is still crucial to continue learning, even through remote options.

[DWM]’s parent company is hosting Glass Expo VE, in conjunction with our educational partner GlassCon Global VE, which will be held September 9-10 online.

Registration is free for all readers and you can sign up at Use the promo code DWMM. While on the site you can also watch a video preview to get an idea for the interactive event and the features that will be available.

Sponsors supporting the event will have virtual booth spaces where they will be able to engage with attendees through live chat functions. Networking lounges, resource centers and other interactive avenues are also available for participants to connect.

We still wanted to come up with some fun ways for participants to interact, so the event will also offer several additional activities for socializing and networking, including the Run for Glass VE 5K, which is open to both runners and walkers, as well as an evening wine tasting.

This is an optional event in which participants may run or walk and will receive an authentic race medal, t-shirt and downloadable race bib. Registration costs $35 and all proceeds will benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Many of you know that I used to be a runner, but a hip issue and subsequent replacement make my times super slow these days so I have taken to other physical activities. But I’m taking one for the team and will run the 5K, so hopefully many of you will join me!

Several other virtual networking activities are planned. These include the virtual wine tasting the evening of September 9 and morning meditation on the morning of September 10, among others.

Meditation isn’t really my thing but you know you will see me at the wine tasting!

Also taking place in September is GlassBuild Connect, the virtual trade show for GlassBuild America, which is taking place all through September. Go to for more information. For the products that exhibitors will be showcasing at both shows see pages 38 to 43.

I look forward to “seeing you” in September.
