Hardwoods Distribution Inc. (HDI) announced on October 29 that it completed the purchase of Pacific Mutual Door Company (PMD), in accordance with previous announcements that the company would complete the acquisition by the end of October.

“This strategic acquisition brings with it a highly profitable business model and increases our existing presence in the attractive door and related millwork product category,” said Rob Brown, president and CEO of HDI.

The acquisition includes several brands and five distribution and manufacturing centers: PMD (Kansas City, Mo. and Albuquerque, N.M.), Warren Brothers Sash and Door (Nashville, Tenn.), Olathe Millwork (Kansas City, Mo.), and Hardman Wholesale (Osborne, Kan.). These businesses will continue to operate under their respective brands as part of Rugby Architectural Building Products (Rugby), a division of HDI.

The acquisition will form the Rugby Midwest region, led by former PMD chief financial officer Rod Beason, who will now assume the title of Midwest regional general manager, according to Rugby president Drew Dickinson.

Officials from HDI declined to comment at this time to [DWM]’s requests for further info about how operations will proceed, instead saying that the company is “dealing with the assimilation of this new company at this time,” and would provide further information later when the transition has settled. Furthermore, officials declined to confirm if the previously announced price of $34.5 million remained the same at the close of the deal.

Stay tuned for any available updates in the next edition of [DWM] magazine.
