Officials for MI Windows and Doors (MI) announced today a definitive agreement to purchase Milgard Windows and Doors (Milgard) from parent company Masco Corp. in a deal that’s expected to close by the end of the year.

Founded in 1947 as an insect screen fabricator, MI is a nationwide manufacturer of vinyl and aluminum windows and sliding patio doors. Milgard manufactures and offers a similar lineup of products, after beginning in 1958 as a glass shop.

Company officials from both MI and Milgard say among the reasons for the acquisition are the ability to enhance market synchronization in order to meet regional consumption demands, broadening both companies’ distribution networks, and a balanced sales portfolio of offerings for both new construction and remodel.

“As part of the MI team, we will be better positioned to enhance our growth and continue delivering the best products and customer experiences to our dedicated dealer network,” says Milgard president Vishal Singh.

The announcement fulfills sentiments expressed by Masco officials earlier in the year when they revealed that they had plans to sell Milgard as part of a shifting strategy for the company’s door and window segment.

“This acquisition aligns with our strategies to diversify our product offering, balance the end markets we serve and expand our presence in growing markets,” MI CEO Matt DeSoto says. “Milgard’s dedication to manufacturing high-quality, market-preferred windows and doors makes it a natural fit for MI, as both companies share a family-first culture where team member and customer satisfaction are top priorities.”
