Quanex Building Products has announced it is investing in a new line of extrusion equipment for its Kent, Wash.-based facility, where the company manufactures Mikron brand vinyl door and window profiles.

The Mikron facility will add ten new extrusion lines sourced from Extrunet, an Austria-based company, and is anticipated to be fully operational by early 2020.

“By driving new efficiency in our manufacturing capabilities, our customers will experience the benefits firsthand in the form of improved production stability and overall customer experience,” says Bob Daniels, the president of the company’s North American fenestration sector.

The new lines are fully digitized, enabling Industry 4.0 manufacturing strategies.

“This is also an investment in our people,” Daniels says. “The new equipment will be first and foremost safer and easier to work with, featuring cleaner, quieter and more sustainable operations for an improved plant floor environment.”

The investment is made in conjunction with the formation of Quanex’s North American fenestration group, which unites each of its brands, including Mikron, Homeshield and IG Systems.
