Officials for the Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) say they’re applauding legislators today for reintroducing the Energy Savings and Building Efficiency Act (H.R. 3586). Sponsored by Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR), the bill fills an important role, WDMA officials suggest, by defining the Department of Energy’s (DOE) role in new model energy code development, while also guaranteeing that certain products and technologies are not given preferential treatment.
“WDMA is pleased to see the reintroduction of the Energy Savings and Building Efficiency Act in the House and thanks Congressman Schrader for leading this bill,” says WDMA president and CEO Michael O’Brien. “This bill is an important step towards increasing transparency, ensuring product neutrality, and promoting cost-effectiveness in the energy code development process. We will continue to work with the Senate and other industry groups on a companion Senate bill, along with ways to enact this legislation into law.”
O’Brien says his association is especially appreciative of the hard work of its members who advocated for H.R. 3586 during the WDMA Legislative Conference in April. Reintroduction of the bill was among the key issues raised at the event.
