The WinDoor show in Montreal is seeing strong attendance this year.

On Tuesday, the WinDoor show opened its 2016 run in a new location for the first time in 20 years with booming attendance and a lively social event that criss-crossed the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal.

During a packed kick-off social hour at the Palais des Congres, Fenestration Canada president Allan Doyle of Global Window Systems announced that attendee registration exceeded 2015 before the show even began.

Later, attendees and exhibitors enjoyed a movable feast around Old Montreal that stopped at three unique restaurants for cocktails and small bites. One participant said he thought it was a great way to network.

“This is a really good idea,” said Chris Dimou, president of Roto North America. “It brings people together in a common purpose instead of just standing around.”

Speaking of Roto, the company had a bit of news at WinDoor. It rolled out a new product at the show, the 9900 sliding patio door handle. It comes in a variety of powder-coat finishes and a satin-nickel architectural finish. The 9900 is designed for three- or four-hole in-line cross-drilling and is non-handed, and the company says it’s especially useful for larger sliding doors.

Today, WinDoor kicks into high gear at the Palais des Congress in downtown Montreal. The trade show, which features more than 150 participants, opens up, and several educational sessions are on tap as well. These will cover topics such as multiple-cavity insulating glass units, Canada’s net zero homes program, a panel discussion on mulling guidelines as they related to engineering methods, and a discussion of the role of social media in the fenestration business. In all, nine sessions are planned over the next two days.

Finally, the day concludes with   “After Hours” floor show party.

WinDoor continues through Thursday. Stay tuned to DWM for more updates, and if you’re in Montreal for the show, stop by and visit us in booth 122.
