Since issues were reported with the National Fenestration Rating Council’s (NFRC) Certified Products Directory (CPD), improvements be made. On June 27, changes that affect laboratories and inspection agencies (IAs) uploading files will be made.

“Over the course of 6 years, the CPD had grown from housing 8 million fenestration options to over 24 million, slowing down the software and causing it to break down with increasing frequency,” a statement from the council reads.

This final phase completes the large product line project (those product lines with over 40,000 options) initiated after that 2014 meeting, where the issues were first reported.

The council says the benefits of the changes, which now has agencies uploading to the database with a .CSV file, will include the following:

  • The .CSV file type allows the CPD to store the data directly in the database, not be limited to the Excel file capabilities, and it reduces the storage requirements for NFRC servers;
  • Simulation laboratories will be able to take advantage of the number of rows in Excel (1 million+) and not have to break-up files unless the product line exceeds the row capacity;
  • Transitioning to a .CSV file type will include an integrated Lab Report Verification System at the upload process, which will eliminate the separate login for verification testing; and
  • Data macro checks remain the same but some were updated and additional macro checks have been added to improve user entry prior to uploading to the CPD.

To implement the improvements to the software, the CPD will be unavailable to users from Friday, June 24 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time to Monday, June 27, at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
