The World Millwork Alliance’s 51st annual convention and tradeshow got underway at Atlanta’s Cobb Galleria Convention Center this week with lots of informative seminars and plenty of new and notable products.

GPI Millworks showed off a range of products in its booth. These include solid foam vinyl sills, PVC, aluminum and fiberglass astragals, adjustable sill pans, foam vinyl framing profiles and retractable screen systems.

The company also unveiled two new kit form products at the show – the K-D high performance (D-50) vinyl sliding patio and a maintenance-free entry door framing system. Both doors come complete with all vinyl and fiberglass fabricated profiles, aluminum roller track and threshold, installed weather-stripping, fully drained sills and all hardware.

Groupe Eugenie showed off its Anny CN-X, the company’s new three-axis CNC door jamb machine. According to the company, Anny can machine both standard and non-standard door jambs, as well as aluminum door thresholds. Anny also does its work in a closed environment, which company officials say is quieter and safer.

Beyond all the products, the WMA show also featured informative seminars covering every aspect of the millwork industry. Sunday featured a full day of presentations.

William Blackmon of Apogee Social Media spoke about LinkedIn and how to use it to attract top-quality job candidates. He was followed by Paul Todd of Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute, who covered process improvement and how it can help businesses be more competitive.

Later, a forum on improving installed sales programs featured Scott Crutchfield, Sr., a vice president with VNS Corp., and Russ Crump of Ridge Pointe Development in Athens, Ga.

Theresa Flynn, a principal consultant with Strategic Benefit Advisors, gave a presentation on the implications of the Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law in 2010. Since then, employers have been subject to a host of new requirements and costs

Later in the afternoon, WMA’s GenNEXT “Let’s Talk About It” forum provided a networking opportunity the association’s members who are age 35 and younger.

Other events scheduled for the show included a keynote address from former NFL player Merril Hoge on Monday and a speed networking event on Tuesday.
