The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) honored two of its members for their contributions to the association and the lumber and building materials industry during the NLBMDA Installation Dinner event Thursday night. It was held in conjunction with the ProDealer Industry Summit in Colorado Springs, Colo.

2014-2015 NLBMDA Chairman JD Saunders selected Woodie Acord, of Acord’s Home Center in Arkansas, and John Somerville, president and CEO of Lumbermen’s Merchandising Corporation, for the Chairman’s Award.

Acord started his business in Eureka Springs, Ark., in 1979 and served on the Mid-America Lumbermen’s Association (MLA) board of directors for many years, including a term as president in 2000. After that, he transitioned to NLBMDA representative for MLA, and then served as an at-large director for NLBMDA.

Somerville, with over 37 years of experience in the building and construction industry, serves on the NLBMDA executive committee, board of directors and the ProDealer advisory board. In the past, he shared his expertise on the policy advisory board of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies. He also developed Habitat for Humanity’s first national corporate agreement.
