The Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) announced that Jeff Baker, M.A.Sc., P.Eng., has been added to the speaker line-up for the association’s upcoming Annual Technical Conference, to be held in Pittsburgh, Pa., at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel from Tuesday, June 17, to Thursday, June 19, 2014.

According to a statement, Baker will discuss, “Where has NAFS been Adopted in Canada and is it Being Enforced?” According to a presentation summary, “NAFS 2008 first appeared in Canadian building codes in the National Building Code (NBC) of Canada 2010.  The NBC 2010 is a model code and cannot be enforce until the provinces adopt this code. Seven of ten provinces have now adopted and implemented the NBC 2010. This means NAFS 2008 and the Canadian Supplement to NAFS-08, CSA A440S1-09, are required for code compliant in seven provinces. This presentation will discuss how the implementation of NAFS and enforcement of the enforcement has been going in Canada. Let’s just say that it has not been pretty and all stakeholders have a lot to learn about the implementation of NAFS.”

Baker has spent more than 25 years working in the fenestration energy analysis field. Currently, he is the President of WESTLab Canada. He also is the technical consultant for the Fenestration Canada, chair of the NFRC board of directors, chair of the CSA A440 committee on fenestration performance and participates in several Canadian national building code committees.

The program comprises of two-and-a-half days of technical sessions, table-top exhibits and networking. Other sessions will include reporting on current industry research, trends in manufacturing processes, procedures and emerging product technologies. Breakout sessions will focus on topics relevant to WDMA membership and the door and window industry. Also, there will be an off-site tour of some of the area’s major manufacturing facilities.
