Pella, Iowa-based Pella Corp. has announced the passing of former president and CEO J. Wayne Bevis on May 31. He was 79.

Bevis joined Pella in 1972, later serving as president and CEO for 15 years from 1980 until he retired in 1995.

“Wayne and his team built the foundation for the transformation for what was then known as the Rolscreen Co. into the innovative industry leader Pella Corp. has grown into today,” says Patrick J. Meyer, Pella’s current president and CEO.

According to Meyer, major accomplishments achieved during Bevis’ tenure included the introduction of traditional double-hung windows and between-the-glass blind options. During his time, the company also constructed the Carroll, Iowa, and Shenandoah, Iowa, manufacturing operations. Bevis also helped lead the addition of eight new production areas at the Pella, Iowa, operations, and introduced the first Pella® Window Store, Quality Circles and the use of kaizen in Pella’s focus on continuous improvement.

Bevis is survived by his wife Faye, two sons, Harold and Graydon, and a daughter Tina Bevis Wood, and their families.
