Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.) visited Quanex Building Products site in Kent, Wash. on May 21. Company officials say the visit was part of their efforts to engage with lawmakers and support policies that are in the best interest of the door and window industry, as well as local communities. The company says this is the first of many such congressional visits as it aims to get the voice of the door and window industry heard on Capitol Hill.

During his visit to the Kent facility, Rep. Smith spent time with Ric Jackson, Quanex director of external affairs, learning about the company’s role in the door and window industry and its advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. In addition, Rep. Smith discussed the impact of the company’s energy-saving products within the door industry, such as the PVC and composite door and window systems manufactured at the plant.

“This is a critical time for the window and door industry to raise its collective voice in Washington, D.C., with a number of proposed tax incentive programs up for discussion,” Jackson says. “As a company, we have ramped up our efforts and are grateful to Congressman Smith for visiting our Kent facility, learning more about our business and interacting with our employees who are impacted by the decisions made in Congress.”

Rep. Smith also received a plant tour where he had an opportunity to meet employees and engage with key personnel. Discussions included Quanex’s role in advancing the energy efficiency of door and window products, as well as new planned innovations.

“We are also in the process of planning future visits with other political figures, advocating for our 2,100 employees spanning 10 states, as well as the entire industry,” Jackson says. “We will make our voice heard and hope our customers will join us in our efforts to support legislation that will help our industry grow and prosper.”
