Jeld-Wen announced that it is consolidating its Cheyenne, Wyo., window plant with other manufacturing operations. The company’s approximately 112 employees have been given two months’ notice of the closure.

“2011 has been another challenging year for the window and door industry because of the extreme downturn in new construction,” according to a Jeld-Wen statement. “The magnitude and speed of the 2007 housing market decline, along with the length of this housing recession, have been unprecedented … U.S. housing starts drive a significant portion of the demand for our windows and doors. As a direct result, we have excess capacity within our window business unit.”

The company has discussed the process for ramping down operations with its employees, and are encouraging them to seek job transfers/relocation within JELD-WEN. The company has also engaged the services of NextJob, a national reemployment company that will offer employees personalized job coaching.
