The Iron Door Co. LLC has announced that it has teamed up with designer Henrietta Spencer-Churchill of Spencer-Churchill Designs Inc. to design a line of iron doors for the Castle Entries brand. According to the Alabaster, Ala.-based company, the line will be competitive with high-end wood doors.

“This relationship provides a strategic focus for our Castle Door Brand and will create additional exposure in the United States and abroad,” says Iron Door CEO Glen Blickenstaff.

He told DWM magazine that Spencer-Churchill approached The Iron Door Co. with the idea.

“Her analysis was spot on,” he says. “What she said was that most wrought iron doors have a French or Spanish influence. By partnering with Churchill, we are opening this market to Georgian, Tudor and Neo-Classical. These first sets of designs, which are purely Neo-classical, are hopefully just the beginning of our relationship with her.”

Blickenstaff says the company has never entered into such a relationship prior to this one and is hoping it will offer some new opportunities.

“In this market, being competitive and meeting or exceeding expectations just isn’t enough,” he says. “A creative approach to expanding market share is critical to survival.”

He says the move also will allow the company to expand its audience.

“She is well known among the architectural and design communities,” says Blickenstaff. “Designers and architects are always looking for products that make a statement. This should be a good audience for us and one we have not reached out to in the past.”

Distribution of the new Spencer-Churchill doors begin with the fall 2010 season.
