The window division of Woodgrain Millwork, composed of Windsor Windows and Doors, Monarch Window and Ashworth Patio Doors, is the first winner of the Woodgrain Millwork President’s Safety Award.
The award was instituted in 2012 and will be presented annually to the company division with the best safety record for the year. To win the 2012 award, the Woodgrain window division reported the following safety metrics for its manufacturing locations in Fruitland, Idaho, Monroe, N.C., and Anniston, Ala.:
• A recordable incident rate of 3.26 percent, well below the national average of 6.5 percent.
• A lost workday incident rate – the number of injuries resulting in lost workdays divided by the number of employee hours worked – that totaled a fractional 0.55.
• A 20 percent decrease in workers compensation cost compared with the previous year.
“The safety of our employees always has been a very important focus for Woodgrain and Windsor,” said Woodgrain president Reed Dame. “Today safety is our number one priority.”
Dame awarded a traveling plaque to the winning Woodgrain window division, along with the right to display the award through 2013.
“It is a true honor to be the first winning division to receive this award,” said Mark Rieser, president of the window division of Woodgrain Millwork. “By showing personal responsibility for a safe workplace, every one of our window employees helps to achieve the Woodgrain Millwork core value of respect for people.”
