Who Made it to Consumers Digest Best Buy List for Windows?September 6th, 2013 by DWM Magazine
Five window companies have risen to the top of the ranks, labeled a “Best Buy” for consumers. Consumers Digest has released its “Best Buy” list for replacement windows in the magazine’s September/October issue. The magazine gave DWM a sneak peek:
Pella Designer Series Precision Fit
Andersen 400 Series
Quaker Classic Fit series
Kolbe Latitude series
Jeld-Wen Ipex series
Thermastar by Pella 20 Series
“Best Buy” recommendations are based on performance ratings, quality of construction and materials, ease of operation and warranty. According to the article, “Best Buy” selections were limited to vinyl and clad-wood units because they account for about 80 percent of the U.S. replacement-window market.
“These honors reflect the outstanding work of the dedicated members who continue to create stylish, highly energy-efficient products,” says Elaine Sagers, vice president of marketing at Pella. “The Consumers Digest ‘Best Buy’ awards are an example of the Pella team’s longtime leadership in innovation, as our windows and doors help customers create better views in their homes and businesses.”
ThermaStar by Pella 20 Series windows—a repeat selection—were named a “Best Buy” because they are “the least expensive replacement window that we found” and “provides more efficient low-emissivity, or low-E, glass and argon-gas fill as standard glazing features,” according to the Consumers Digest article.
The Pella Designer Series Precision Fit window was named a “Best Buy” because it “delivers the best standard performance ratings of any aluminum-clad wood window,” according to Consumers Digest. It is “the only window that we found that includes a third pane of glass that’s hinged, which allows homeowners to install or swap out features, such as grilles or blinds.”
Kolbe’s Mark Harger, general manager of Kolbe’s facility operations in Manawa, Wis., says his company is also honored to be named to the list.
“This is the second time that we have received this recognition from Consumers Digest, which is an impartial judge of products in today’s competitive market,” he says. “Latitude Series windows offers outstanding value for homeowners who want more than a typical, rectangular replacement window. Our products come in a breadth of shapes and sizes that combine quality construction, low-maintenance material, exceptional energy-efficiency and dependable performance. Exterior colors and trims extend the design flexibility needed to complement nearly any architecture or décor.”
