Was that a Red Light?
On New Year’s Day we celebrated a fresh start at the crossroads where the past and present meet the future. It is a major intersection we can plan to go through about 70 times while we travel on the road of life. Did you come to a complete stop and look both ways before proceeding? Did you check your mirrors and the gauges on the dashboard? Or did you go through the intersection without even slowing down to read the signs or take in the scenery? If you blew through the red light on the first day of January you decreased your chances of safely getting to your planned destination.
That intersection was a good place to pull over, get out of the car and stretch. To reflect on where you’ve been, where you are now and where you are headed. It was a chance to check your vehicle for safety and talk to your passengers about the trip ahead.
The New Year is a good time to unfold your map, find where you are and figure out the best way to get where you plan to go. It’s an occasion to re-examine personal and career choices so you can decide if you are on the right course or if its time to change direction.
January is an important month for a door and window dealer to stop and look around, too. It is time to measure the company’s performance during the past year. It is time to appraise the present condition of the company’s finances, facilities, staff and systems. It is time to decide the direction for the future.
As I turn the pages on a brand new calendar I celebrate the beginning of the rest of my journey on the road of life. My GPS is navigating me to the destination I have entered.
