August 20th, 2012 by DWM Magazine

The Peek family from Camillus, New York family won a home makeover in a contest that set out to find America’s “Homeliest Home.” The contest was sponsored by roofing manufacturer GAF, and the winners received a home makeover that included exterior building products, including patio doors and windows supplied by Ply Gem.

Three winning families were selected from the categories of (a) if you or someone living with you suffers from an illness, (b) if you are or were recently in the military, or (c) if you suffered a weather-related event. The Peek family was selected for the illness category in honor of their seven-year-old daughter, Sarah, who lost her long battle with Pulmonary Hypertension on March 3, 2010. The two other winning families will be announced later this week.

The Peeks entered in memory of Sarah and in hopes to raise awareness for pulmonary hypertension. There are an estimated 30,000 people who have been diagnosed with the disease and more than 100,000 who are suffering from symptoms, but are not diagnosed. After Sarah’s passing, the Peek family created the Sarah Smiles Annual Phun-Raiser for Pulmonary Hypertension in her memory and to help educate others about the illness.

The Peeks received a full exterior home makeover including a “Designed Exterior” by Ply Gem with windows, siding, stone veneer, railing and designer accents. The total product prize package for the home is valued at up to $60,000. The family and the resulting exterior makeover appeared on Fox & Friends. Watch the video from the show here.

“Ply Gem is honored to take part in giving the Peeks a beautifully updated home exterior,” says John Stephenson, senior vice president, corporate marketing of leading building products manufacturer, Ply Gem. “Application of The Designed Exterior by Ply Gem, combined with roofing from GAF, completely transforms the look, energy efficiency and maintenance level of the Peek family’s home.”
