Get Help from OSHA and Small Business Administration at AWFS FairJune 14th, 2011 | Category: Event News
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA), along with their partnering group, the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), will exhibit at the Association of Woodworking and Furniture Suppliers (AWFS) Fair, July 20 – 23, 2011 in Las Vegas. The two groups will offer daily presentations on topics of relevance to the woodworking industry.
Art Sipple and Don Evans from the State of Nevada OSHA Safety Consultation and Training Section will discuss common citations for the woodworking industry and how to avoid them. The sessions will be held daily at 3 p.m. on the show floor and will include the following:
• General Regulations (Wednesday);
• Woodworking Machinery (Thursday);
• Hazard Communication (Friday); and
• Lockout/Tagout (Saturday).
The two also will present a seminar in the general College of Woodworking Knowledge (CWWK) education program, “OSHA Safety & Health Guidelines: Voluntary or Mandatory?” The course will run on Wednesday, July 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Joy Flack, Las Vegas area director for the Department of Labor (Federal OSHA), will also participate in a panel, “Regulations That Affect the Woodworking Industry,” addressing combustible dust, the global harmonized system, injury and illness prevention and working surfaces and fall protection systems, on Friday, July 22, 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Flack will be joined by Dr. Marilyn Black from GREENGUARD, Brad Miller of the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA), and Corey Connors of the Composite Panel Association (CPA). The panel will cover formaldehyde and VOC emissions, green building codes, wood fiber, and government purchasing requirements for green products.
