Former AMD President Richard Herbert McGraw Passes AwayFebruary 24th, 2012 | Category: Industry News
Richard Herbert ‘Dick’ McGraw, who had previously served as CEO and president of Kimball & Russell Inc., passed away on February 13, 2012 at the age of 88. He had been an active member of the Association of Millwork Distributors (AMD) for many years and in 1971 served as president of the National Sash & Door Jobbers Association (now AMD).
In 1943 McGraw gained his wings as a naval aviator before becoming an F6F Hellcat fighter pilot and a member of the aircraft carrier USS Essex’s “Fabled Fifteen” air group, which participated in many major air battles in the Pacific including the Marianas Turkey Shoot and battles in the Philippines and Leyte Gulf. For his efforts, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Mary Louise Kimball in 1945 at the Long Beach, Calif., Naval Air Station and after the war he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University. He served on the Bloomfield Hills Board of Education from 1963-1969, serving as President for four of those years.
McGraw is survived by his wife, a brother and a sister, his four children, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or The Humane Society. A Memorial Service is scheduled for May 7, 2012, at Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
