Construction Employment Drops in 30 States
January 3rd, 2013 | Category: Industry NewsA recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that construction employment declined in 30 states from the month of October 2012 to November 2012. The largest drop was seen in Indiana, where those employed in construction decreased from 129.9 thousand to 123.7 thousand—a drop of 4.8 percent.
Additionally, Montana saw a decrease in construction-related employment from 25.6 thousand to 24.5 thousand—a 4.3-percent loss. Other states showing sizable decreases included West Virginia, where the number of construction-related employees declined from 35.1 thousand in October to 33.9 thousand in November, a drop of 3.4 percent.
Still, a few states saw sizeable increases, including Vermont, with a 4.4-percent increase from 13.7 thousand to 14.3 thousand; Louisiana, with a 4.0-percent rise from 121.9 thousand to 126.8 thousand; and New Hampshire, with a 3.6-percent gain from 22.1 thousand to 21.3 thousand.
