Door and Window Manufacturer magazine will feature its grand award winner in its third annual green awards in its upcoming November-December issue. The winner was chosen from the dealer category, but we are also featuring nominees in some of the other groups as well. This week we are featuring a nominee—B.F. Rich Windows and Doors, based in Newark, Dele., in our R-5 Windows category for its Cabernet R-5 Green Shield window.
When asked how the product delivers superior energy-efficiency results, the entry form stated, “The lower cost of this dual-glazed window as compared to a triple-glazed window makes it more affordable to consumers and results in a faster return on investment.”
The insulating glass unit uses SunClean™ self-cleaning glass on surface one, Solarban® 70 low-E on surface two and Comfort E-PS™ low-E on surface four. It is argon filled and utilizes the Duralite™ warm-edge spacer, polyurethane insulation in the sashes and frame, antimicrobial weather seals, and GreenGuard® certified UltraVue screen cloth, according to the company.
“The price advantage of this dual-glazed window as compared to our triple-glazed R-5 window has resulted in a year-to-date sales increase of 322 percent over 2010 R-5 sales,” according to company information.
