AAMA to Begin Phase-Out of AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S.2-97

At the American Architectural Manufacturers Association’s (AAMA) annual meeting in Indian Wells, Calif., on February 26, the Certification Policy Committee (CPC) decided to begin permitting testing for certification to AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S. 2/A440-08, NAFS - North American Fenestration Standard/Specification for windows, doors and skylights under the AAMA program as of March 1, 2008.

The CPC also approved to begin the phase-out of AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S. 2-97, Voluntary Specifications for Aluminum, Vinyl (PVC) and Wood Windows and Glass Doors. Testing for certification to this standard will continue until March 1, 2012. Test reports will be permitted for use for their entire four-year span, so certification and labeling to 101-97 will end four years later, as of March 1, 2016.

Testing to ANSI/AAMA/WDMA 101/I.S. 2/NAFS-02 and AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101.I.S. 2/A440-05 are unaffected.

AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S. 2/A440-08 will eventually replace the previous specification, though the new document is in the process of being adopted by the International Code Council for the 2009 Codes. (CLICK HERE for AAMA's full announcement about the phase-out.)
