Kolbe and Kolbe Millwork Making a Difference
Wausau, Wis.-based Kolbe and Kolbe Millwork Co. Inc. discovered that a small community can make a difference when their employees and the Wausau area pulled together to aid the relief efforts for the Gulf Coast.
In one week Kolbe, Wausau area schools and local businesses were able to collect more than a semi-truck full of goods for hurricane relief, according to the company.
Kolbe employees and family members filled half a semi-truck, while area schools and local businesses filled the remainder of the truck. When the doors finally closed there were still boxes sitting on the dock for yet another truck to be loaded and sent down. The Best Western Midway Hotel in Rib Mountain and Stoney Creek Hotel in Mosinee, Wis., donated bedding, water and hygiene items such as toilet paper and soap. Area schools collected food, clothing and hygiene items showing that anyone no matter who they are can make a difference.
"We are very proud of the efforts and generosity shown by the employees of Kolbe and their families. We are equally proud of, and thankful to, businesses and school districts in the Wausau area that stepped forward and contributed items that will benefit people in the Gulf Coast whose lives have been so devastated by Katrina. People in the Wausau area have long been known for their generosity and care for victims of catastrophic events, and this is certainly another example of our community responding in a very important way," said Mike Salsieder, president.
On September 13, a truck left Kolbe and Kolbe Millwork on its way to the Gulf Coast areas hit by Katrina. Kolbes' distributor "Coastal Door and Window" in Alabama, teamed up with the Volunteers of America, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross, to help distribute these items to areas worst hit by Katrina.
