Wood Coatings Demand to Grow, According to Freedonia
The Freedonia Group has issued a report that says that U.S. demand for wood protection coatings and preservatives will grow 2.7 percent annually despite continued weakness in the key siding market. In addition, the group says gains will be driven by greater emphasis on growing interior wood applications such as cabinets and flooring, and by a shift toward higher value formulations due to environmental issues.
The study, which analyzes the wood protection product industry, presents historical U.S. demand data from 1994, 1999 and 2004 and forecasts to 2009 and 2014 by wood coating and preservative product (e.g., stains, paints, sealers, primers, metallic compounds, nonmetallic compounds), by application (e.g., siding, decking, furniture, cabinets, windows and doors, flooring, fencing) and by market.
The study also considers market environment indicators, evaluates company market share and profiles 37 major producers including Sherwin-Williams, Imperial Chemical Industries, Berkshire Hathaway, Valspar, RPM, and Masco.
