2006 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition Announced The Extrusion Technology for Aluminum Profiles Foundation (ET Foundation), the education and research arm of the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), is preparing to hold the 2006 International Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. The goal of the competition is to promote the understanding and use of extruded aluminum profiles, as well as to highlight innovations and recognize excellence in aluminum extrusion design, according to the association. Aluminum extruders, professional designers, engineers and manufacturers of aluminum extruded products, as well as students studying design and engineering are eligible to participate. Entries will be grouped by definition of end product in various categories. Students will compete in their own separate category, regardless of end product. According to the association, winning entries will be those that demonstrate the benefits of aluminum extrusions, whether by inventing a new product or improving an existing one, by achieving the following objectives: ease of fabrication and assembly, cost-effectiveness, innovation, new application capability, customization, close tolerances, improvement of extrusion processes and likelihood of market success. The entry deadline is expected to be in February 2006. |
