AAMA Meeting Wraps Up in California
The American Architectural Manufacturers Association’s (AAMA) 71st Annual Conference was held Sunday through Wednesday at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa in Indian Wells, Calif.
Gantt Miller of Winco reported that the residential housing market was down by 25 percent in 2007, the lowest level reported in decades. The good news is that the market is expected to rebound in 2009 and the high-end residential market is still up. On the commercial side, the market is expected to gain by 8 percent in 2008.
In some sad news, AAMA president Rich Walker reported that Barry Hardman of the National Building Science Corp. died earlier this month from an aggressive form of cancer. (CLICK HERE for full obituary from DWM.) According to Walker, Hardman has made a great contribution to the fenestration industry and was passionate about his work.
Back by popular demand, financial and economic journalist and TV host Stuart Varney presented the keynote address, “A New Day in America: Its Economy, Its Politics and Its Culture.”
The meeting also included reports from the Curtainwall Fastener Task Group, the Aluminum Storefront Door Task Group and Door Hardware Task Group. In addition, the Coastal Coating Subcommittee, Architectural and Residential Codes Working Group and Impact Certification Labeling Task Group, among several others, gathered to conduct business.
