Jim Guardia, Contributor to Aluminum Industry, Passes Away
June 9, 2009

Jim Guardia of Guardia Engineering in Yorba Linda, Calif., passed away on May 16. Guardia was involved with the aluminum door and window industry for 45 years and worked with companies such as Metaico Aluminum Windows as chief designer, International Aluminum Co. as vice president of manufacturing and engineering design, Elder Industries as vice president of manufacturing and engineering design and with Superior Aluminum Products as vice president of manufacturing and engineering design.

Most recently he worked for the aluminum door and window company Oceanside Aluminum Inc. It is there where Karl Krumme had the pleasure of working with him.

"If there is anything I am grateful for it is my time with Jim over the last two years," said Krumme. "Working with Jim was a real treat."

Krumme said the two talked often on the phone conversing over hardware and extrusions. He says Jim was always drawing and talking.

"We would talk and Jim's light would go on and he would say, "Hold the line, Hold the line. Jim would make a quick sketch and fax it to me and we would be back at it again."

Guardia is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Craig; a daughter, Linda; and four grandchildren, Lissa, Alexis, Elizabeth and Cody.
